Deciding to remodel or renovate your home is a big commitment. Wanting to upgrade an older home into a modernized reflection of your style and family needs is often exciting and anticipating the change can leave you with a wave of emotions, but a lot of questions. We at Future Vision Remodeling would like to take the opportunity to answer many of the frequently asked questions regarding what to expect when undertaking home renovations.
Home Remodeling & Renovations
1) Is home remodeling construction excessively noisy all day?
You can expect noise at varying levels throughout the home renovation process. Most companies are diligent about giving you advanced notice during the phases where the noise is at high decimals to help you plan accordingly. Such examples in particular include concrete and/or tile cutting, floor sanding, and other equipment that is used.
2) Should I expect a volume of dirt, dust, and construction debris?
The demolition phase is by far the worst of the dust and dirt. Things will be fairly clean following the stripping down to the frame. However, during any drywall installation and sanding applications, very fine dust is produced for a few days. When completing your project, construction companies cover up all sensitive possessions such as electronics and furnishings that linger in contact with the proceedings.
3) Will I have to sacrifice power/water/gas utilities for long intervals during the remodel?
You can expect some brief interruptions to the utilities during the demolition phase as well as when the rough trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC) are being completed. The electrical, water, and gas may need to be shut off anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. More intricate renovations may also require specific utilities to be shut off for a day or two at a time, but again, you are generally informed prior to the utilities being cut off and the expected duration.
4) When do I have to finalize my decisions on appliances, fixtures, so forth?
Throughout the course of your remodel, as the various decisions need to be finalized, the project manager will give you a notice to the deadline, but it is optimal to have the majority of your decisions made before the project gets underway.
5) Am I informed on the progress of my remodel?
Your project production manager will often deliver ongoing communication throughout the house renovation process. With modern technology managing your project your professional can easily keep you updated.
6) Are permits required for a home renovation?
A general rule of thumb is that a permit is required if structural alterations are required or if the general living area of the home is changed; this includes any remodeling to bathroom designs, kitchen makeovers, or other remodeling services.
7) How long does it take to renovate a house?
Each home remodel is unique that has custom services and chosen. The duration of your project depends on multiple factors such as the size of the renovation project, scope of work and materials/finishes used, and other such details. Your contractor will often offer a projected schedule for each remodeling project based on our full understanding of the scope.
8) Can I stay in my house during the renovation?
The only time it is recommended to move out completely is your whole house is being remodeled. Other living arrangements during the construction period are better for not only your safety but also to go about daily life without interruptions.
